The minimum average requirement across the 5 courses is 70% but the competitive average ranges between low and mid-80s.
If you are taking IB or AP exams simultaneously with your high school curriculum, the University of Alberta will consider the higher of the two grades so you are NOT at a disadvantage for choosing to sit an IB or AP exam. If you achieve a 6 or higher in a higher level IB course or a 4 and higher in AP you will also receive transfer credit. Check out more information about IB and AP applicants.

The general sciences program is incredibly flexible and truly allows you to build a unique degree. There are, however, some junior core requirements that are necessary to graduate.
Junior core requirements are:
- 6 credits of English
- 6 credits of physical sciences
- 6 credits of mathematical sciences
- 6 credits of laboratory sciences
Most psychology students will also take PSYCO 104, PSYCO 105, and STAT 151 in their first year. (these are major requirements)
